#Acting4Film gives Curro learners a head start in screen acting

A bold new screen acting initiative is giving Curro learners professional-level, in-studio experience long before they finish school. The new #Acting4Film programme, which is being launched by Curro Create, introduces a first-of-its-kind opportunity in South Africa: hands-on screen acting training designed with international standards in mind, and tailored to the local context.

Practical training in front of the camera

While access to screen acting programmes for school learners in South Africa has been limited, #Acting4Film is closing that gap. After comparing leading training models from cities like New York, London, and Sydney, Curro Create has created a local version that brings professional-level experience directly to learners.

South Africa’s growing role in international film and television has raised the demand for skilled local performers. #Acting4Film responds to this need, helping learners build camera-ready skills early on.

‘We’re not just teaching acting – we’re preparing learners for a world where human storytelling and emotional intelligence are their superpowers,’ says Hennie van Greunen, head of Curro Create. ‘These are tangible, future-proof skills that can’t be faked or replaced by AI.’

Professional-level studio experience

The programme is available exclusively to Curro learners and offers the Top 15 participants a rare opportunity: a professional shoot in-studio with a director, director of photography, sound and lighting crew, hair and make-up artists, and a wardrobe and props team. Learners will also work with green screen and LED Volume screen technology, giving them experience that mirrors real industry practice.

An additional 15 learners from the Top 30 will also benefit from close mentorship. This includes feedback and guidance from award-winning actors, directors, and producers who are part of Curro Create’s national network of adjudicators. These mentors bring their expertise from stage, screen, and top-tier South African productions directly to the learners involved.

Growing beyond performance

Curro Create’s aim is broader than performance training. Learners also develop confidence, communication, and creative thinking skills that are relevant to any future career. The initiative complements the academic programme, offering a space for expression, collaboration, and growth – regardless of subject choice or life path.

This is part of Curro’s wider goal to prepare learners for a world of change, where creativity and adaptability are among their most valuable tools.

Says Hennie, ‘#Acting4Film is about helping learners find their voice and develop the courage to use it.’
