The school added: ‘Over the past weeks, players were challenged with a variety of imaginative themes – from designing a Meerkat Hideout to creating a Seal Splash Pool. Each build pushed their problem-solving abilities and encouraged them to think outside the box, all while working together under time pressure.’
Their message ended with clear pride: ‘Their final placement at the top of the group is a true reflection of their dedication, enthusiasm, and growing talent. We are extremely proud of our young builders and cannot wait to see what amazing creations they will bring in the future. Congratulations to our champions – you have shown that creativity and teamwork can truly build success!’

How the Build Battle League works
The league brings together Foundation Phase teams from schools across the country in a series of themed building rounds. Each week’s challenge required spatial reasoning, planning, creativity and collaboration. Learners had to complete all builds collectively within strict time limits, reinforcing teamwork as a core skill.
Themes such as a ‘Meerkat Hideout’ and a ‘Seal Splash Pool’ gave the young builders space to experiment with design thinking and imaginative problem-solving. Their consistent performance across all rounds lifted them to the top of their group.
A growing digital skills pathway
The team’s success signals a growing digital literacy pathway at Curro Vanderbijlpark, where esports, Minecraft education, coding and creative digital projects form part of an expanding skills ecosystem.
Their achievement also highlights the educational value of Minecraft as a tool for design thinking and collaboration. These young learners have shown early potential for future participation in coding, robotics and broader digital competitions.
