17 June 2025The Under-19 boys’ football team from Curro Soshanguve has qualified for the national knockout stage of the Curro Halala Cup. This prestigious tournament features the top 16 school teams in South Africa and offers a grand prize of R100,000.
Road to the top 16
The team’s path to the national stage was hard-fought. They won their opening match against Curro Pretoria in a nail-biting penalty shootout, then followed it up with a 3–2 victory over Curro Thatchfield. These two wins secured their place among the country’s best.
Curro’s Meridian Pinehurst and Curro Soshanguve now stand as the only Curro schools in the top 16. These results mark a proud moment for the schools and a milestone in Curro sport.

Leadership and belief
Behind the Soshanguve squad is coach Austen Baloyi, whose calm leadership and strategic insight have helped the team rise to the challenge. He’s known for building trust with players and preparing them for high-pressure moments.
‘This moment means everything,’ said Austen. ‘It’s about more than football – it’s about proving what’s possible when discipline, teamwork, and opportunity come together. I’m incredibly proud of what these boys have achieved and their experience as well.’

A whole-school effort
The players’ success reflects more than what happens on the pitch. Parents, staff, and fellow learners have backed the team from the beginning, creating a strong sense of support throughout the school.
With the national stage now in sight, the Curro Soshanguve U19 boys have earned their place and they’re not done yet.
