Tristan Smith of Curro Somerset West reaches Western Cape Aquatics finals

Strong finals performances in open-age competition marked a standout championship for Tristan Smith at the Western Cape Aquatics LC-A Championship, held from 4 to 8 December 2025 in Malmesbury.

Competing in the Men’s 16 years and over (open) category, Tristan measured himself against older and more physically developed swimmers at one of the province’s highest-level meets. Hhe qualified for the finals in both breaststroke events and finished 11th in the 100m breaststroke and 8th in the 200m breaststroke, while representing Curro Somerset West.

Finals racing in open competition

The open category placed Tristan on the same start lists as senior competitors, raising both the physical and tactical demands of racing. In the 100m breaststroke final, he recorded a time of 1:14.72, followed by a 2:43.44 finish in the 200m breaststroke final.

Across the championship, Tristan also delivered five personal best times, underlining steady improvement across multiple swims rather than a single peak performance.

Progress across the season

Social coverage from the school highlighted finals appearances, measurable time gains and consistent racing under pressure as key indicators of progress.

Those December results followed a broader run of form across the Western Cape swimming calendar in 2025, where Tristan posted additional personal bests and competitive finishes at earlier meets.
